What is a warming cabinet used for in theatres?

Mostly infusion and irrigation fluids, warming blankets and dressings, so they reach the patient close to body temperature rather than drawing heat from them. Anything warmed should be within the range your clinical protocol specifies for that item.

Why is 38°C the default setpoint?

It sits just below body temperature, which suits fluids and blankets intended for direct patient contact. It is a starting point rather than a rule — set the cabinet to whatever your protocol defines for the items you warm.

How long does a load take to warm?

It depends on starting temperature, load size and how full the cabinet is, so no single figure applies. Validate the cycle in your own theatre with the items and quantities you actually use, then document it in the protocol.
