01. Project Background
The Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) in Karachi is one of Pakistan's most respected healthcare institutions. Its new CSSD (Central Sterile Services Department) required a hygienic building envelope that could support strict one-way sterile workflow.
A CSSD is the engine room of infection control. Every surgical instrument in the hospital passes through it — from soiled receiving, through washing and disinfection, into packing, sterilisation and finally the sterile store. If the room envelope leaks, sheds particles, or allows uncontrolled movement between dirty and clean zones, the entire sterilisation chain is compromised.
The SIUT project covered the full CSSD suite on the hospital's upper floor, including the Washing & Disinfection area, the Packing area, and the Sterilized Store, connected by a dedicated sterile corridor. The project team needed wall, ceiling, door and transfer-hatch systems that were cleanable, airtight where required, and fast to install inside an operating hospital.

02. Scope of Supply

03. Zone-by-Zone Design Logic
CSSD material selection is not one-size-fits-all. Each functional zone at SIUT received a panel and door specification matched to its exposure conditions.
Washing & Disinfection
The wet zone lives with constant humidity, chemical detergents and washer-disinfector heat. Here, double-side stainless steel panels were specified — corrosion-resistant on both faces, washable with hospital-grade chemicals.
Packing & Sterile Store
Clean-side zones use hybrid panels: stainless steel on the room face for durability and cleanability, SECC white powder-coated steel on the reverse — an efficient specification without over-engineering the concealed face.
Doors & Openings
A double swing door handles trolley traffic on the main circulation route; single swing doors close each functional room; nine access panel doors give maintenance teams reach into service voids without breaking the hygienic envelope.
Material Transfer
An interlocked pass box transfers goods between zones without door-to-door air exchange, while the dim glass observation window allows supervision of the sterile side without entry.

04. Installation by Mediland Pakistan
Installation and commissioning were carried out entirely by ICARELIFE's Pakistan distributor, Mediland Pakistan Pvt. Ltd., with the site team led by installation engineer Mr. Muhammad Yaseen.
Rather than mobilising a factory installation crew from China, the project used a distributor-executed installation model. Mediland's engineers handled panel setting-out, interlocking wall assembly, ceiling grid and panel installation, door hanging and adjustment, pass box integration, and final sealing and trim work.
ICARELIFE supported the site remotely through structured video guidance: shop drawings and panel layout plans were issued in advance, and critical stages — first-panel alignment, door frame squaring, hermetic seal adjustment — were reviewed live over video with ICARELIFE engineers in Shenzhen. Mr. Yaseen and his team executed the work to a standard fully consistent with factory-installed projects.

How the remote-guided installation was structured
- 1Pre-shipment: panel layout plan and door/wall legend issued against the architect's CSSD drawings
- 2Consolidated sea shipment, CIF Karachi, with wooden export packaging protecting panel edges and door leaves
- 3Site kickoff: setting-out verified against the layout plan before first panel fix
- 4Live video checkpoints at each critical stage — wall start, ceiling grid, door alignment, pass box interlock test
- 5Commissioning and handover completed by the Mediland team
05. Why This Delivery Model Works for Hospital Contractors
The SIUT CSSD demonstrates a repeatable model for contractors and distributors handling sterile-area fit-outs: factory-engineered systems, local installation, remote technical assurance.
Speed. Interlocking modular panels install significantly faster than masonry-and-render construction, with no wet trades in the sterile zone. For a working hospital like SIUT, shortening the construction window inside the building matters as much as the finished quality.
Local capability, factory standards. A trained distributor team backed by structured video guidance removes the cost and scheduling risk of flying in a foreign installation crew, while keeping workmanship aligned with the system supplier's standards. It also means the after-sales and maintenance capability stays in-country with Mediland.
Single-source envelope. Walls, ceiling, doors, access panels, pass box, window, profiles and skirting arrived as one engineered kit from one supplier. There were no interface disputes between a panel vendor, a door vendor and a hatch vendor — every junction was designed to fit before the container left Shenzhen.

One engineered kit, one partner on the ground — the delivery model behind the SIUT CSSD.
06. Frequently Asked Questions
The washing and disinfection zone is continuously exposed to moisture, heat and cleaning chemicals. Stainless steel resists corrosion, tolerates aggressive disinfectants, and presents a non-porous, seamless surface that can be washed down daily without degrading — which painted or laminate finishes cannot sustain long-term.
A pass box is an interlocked transfer hatch built into the wall between two zones of different cleanliness. Only one door can open at a time, so items move between zones without a direct air path — protecting the clean side while keeping the workflow moving.
Yes — provided the system is engineered for it. Interlocking panels with pre-cut openings, factory-hung door leaves and a clear layout plan reduce site work to assembly rather than fabrication. Combined with live video checkpoints at critical stages, a trained local team can deliver factory-standard results, as the Mediland team demonstrated at SIUT.
For the SIUT scope, production lead time was 25 working days from order confirmation, followed by sea freight to Karachi. Because the full envelope ships as one consolidated consignment, the site team can plan a continuous installation sequence rather than waiting on multiple vendors.
